Blue Highway

I was working on a small sculptural piece titled, "Blue Highway", which was influenced by a book of the same name written by William Least Heat-Moon. The sculpture was a stylized mountain form made from a piece of wood that had been sawed apart and joined back together by a piece of blue glass in the shape of an "S" curve, a "Blue Highway" disappearing into the horizon. The resulting sculpture prompted an interest in the "S" curve itself and the realization that the form of the sculpture could be used as the starting point for designing the Meander line of furniture.
